Making baskets with Sosse

Sosse Baker is a famous basket maker living right here in Chester. I am lucky to be taking a class with her. I've admired her work for years. She is teaching us how to make a market basket so we can all bring them to the farmers market in Chester! We are working with beautifully dyed reed and hand carved ash handles. If you'd like to see more of her baskets visit the Chester Gallery or email chestergallery@att.net

Patrick Dougherty

I volunteered the other day for an installation that Patrick Dougherty is doing at the Florence Griswold Museum. Patrick is a sculptor from North Carolina who weaves nature into amazing structures and exhibits throughout the world.

I felt so fortunate to be a part of this process. We spent a rigorous morning stripping the leaves off of local saplings baring only the lines of the branches. Some trees could fit in your hand and some were over 15 feet.
During the next 3 weeks you can watch the progress of the project http://www.flogris.org/
See their blog and YouTube posts. I will keep you posted on my next shifts!

This is an image called Around the Corner in New Harmony Indiana.
Check out his work at his website http://www.stickwork.net/
